Working with Chiron in the natal chart

I’m doing a series of astrology lessons on working with Chiron on my YouTube channel. In the first two videos, we explore the myth of Chiron and dive into some of the themes that inform our experience of “the wounded healer” in our birth charts.

Chiron’s was the first of a new type of celestial object, the Centaur planets, to be discovered back in 1977. In the first video, we look at some of Chiron’s unique features and explore how Chiron's mythology informs our astrological understanding of this revolutionary archetype including:

• Chiron's half-human/half-animal form

• Abandonment by his mother and adoption by the Sun-god Apollo

• Chiron as healer, master herbalist and medicine man

• Chiron as mentor and teacher to some of the greatest heroes of antiquity, including Hercules and Achilles

I also look at Chiron’s glyph, indicating his potential to serve as the key to unlocking our higher potentials.

In the second video we dig deeper into the Chiron wound and explore what the myth tells us about healing, integrating and transcending our woundedness. Some things I cover include:

• “The wound that never heals” and archetypal psychologist James Hillman’s dictum that "the soul communicates through pathologizing"

• Chiron's role as redeemer and archetypal parallels with Prometheus and Jesus

• Hercules as the heroic ego who both dooms Chiron to eternal torment and also functions as the instrument of his salvation

• Hillman’s concept of ego inflation as “the sin of satanic selfhood” and the the role of ego in both wounding the soul and also playing a necessary part in transcending the wound
